How is canthoplasty done at APEX?

Epicanthoplasty

An incision follows the shape of the inner corner; the skin is dissected and the epicanthal fold is repositioned or removed.
The extent of the opening can vary with each person's eye shape and structure, but generally an effect of about 1~3mm can be achieved.

Upper Canthoplasty

This procedure removes the upper portion of the epicanthal fold, lifting the inner corner about 45 degrees upward so that the previously hidden part of the iris is exposed.
Opening the front of the inner corner upward improves both the horizontal width and the shape.

Lateral Canthoplasty

A horizontal incision is made where the upper and lower lids meet at the outer corner, and suturing extends to the inner conjunctiva.
The incision is placed so as not to injure the ligament that shapes the outer corner; the ligament is repositioned and then sutured.

Lower Canthoplasty

Through a transconjunctival incision under the eye, the fascia beneath the eye is shortened to lower the eye line, then sutured.
Because the angle at the outer corner can be adjusted, upturned corners can be lowered for larger, gentler-looking eyes.
